Artists Of Hoot - Kirti Narain

Artist Of Hoot - Kirti Narain

Kirti Narain, a 20-year-old fashion photographer from Delhi, is a perfect example of the saying " sky is the limit". Pursuing political science from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, has worked with brands like Nike, fashion bloggers like Sejal Kumar and Kritika Khurana, and management companies like Grapevine at an age this young.

In our conversation with us, she opened up about her story of what inspired her to strive and never settle for less? Kirti, like many of us, had a group in school but the difference was she had always been the prey to misunderstanding. She got bullied in class 9th and 10th. Even her friends of 4-5 years, made fun of her. This might sound like an American TV series plot to you, but, it’s not. This made her believe that she is not putting enough efforts and is not capable of doing anything productive. Therefore, she started to divert her mind from the blue thoughts by starting to paint and click photographs with her iPod. Kirti feels that photography came as a gift and a blessing.

"God had a plan and to execute it was upon me. Fortunately, I got some basic teaching in school where photography was only taught to my class. While performing a self-portrait task that was given to me by my teacher, I found my identity. The camera became my magic wand (and I, the magician. Haha!). I found a way to express my vision, through photography." She goes on to talk about "Having scored 85% in my board exams, my dream college was difficult to get in." The 18-year-old bud explored Delhi for the first time to click, in order to find that aesthetic click that can get her in her dream college. Her hard work paid off. The knack to click and express got her through the ECA selection for admission in the college she wanted to be, Kirori Mal College.

Kirti didn't stop there, she took small steps to quench her thirst to capture perfect, raw emotions that describe her. When asked what she thinks about photography as an artform, she said “photos are just like the brain, where memories can be saved and nurtured forever.” She believes that this art has the power to express emotions in more ways that we can possibly imagine. A single photo can be seen through some zillion perspectives. A photo that might look sad to you might be inspirational to some other.

"Having been through so many crucial stages while following my passion, what kept me going was the zeal to click and evince what I feel through the pictures I clicked. I feel whatever an artist does, each and every kind of artform puts you through a lot of challenges, but, one should never settle for anything less than what they aim for." Photography is just like food to her soul. She likes being known for her art, because, recognition is all an artist seeks and appreciation is all an artist is hungry for. The perception and the different kind of emotions that people associate her art makes her happy and inspires her to push her limits. `Let us know what inspires you to follow your dreams despite all odds and you could be our next Artist Of Hoot!
